I will explain this week’s new unit of work in the audio below – listen to this first so that today’s task makes sense!

Today we are going to learn about writing in the first person. This means using words such as ‘I, my, we, our.’

Look at the below paragraphs. Which one is in the first person and which one isn’t? What words tell you it is in the first person?

  • As I looked down from our lofty home, I noticed a group of humans. They seemed to be holding loud, bright monsters with sharp, glistening teeth that were tearing our trees from the ground.

  • As she looked down from their lofty home, she noticed a group of humans. They seemed to be holding loud, bright monsters with sharp, glistening teeth that were tearing their trees from the ground.

Now have a go at writing your own first person sentences. (At least 6!)

E.g. I really enjoy taking our dogs for a long walk in the afternoons. We usually go my way which is into the woods and down the side of the steep hill.

Everyone now should now have their own version, or have edited my version of ‘Lockdown.’ You will have also gone back to it and added bits in or changed it (Monday 4th May’s lesson.)

What I would like you to do is perform it again with the changes you’ve made.  Re-record it and send it to me again if you would like!  Maybe you’ve changed the beat, added in an extra verse, or changed the rhyming? Firstly, thank you for all your videos and versions of ‘Lockdown!’ I am so proud of what you have achieved, was great to see you having fun and some of you getting your parents and siblings involved!!! Well done.

So today I’d like you have a go at editing my version or your version of ‘Lockdown.’   My version can be heard below if you can’t remember it.

Look at the images of my first attempt, you’ll see I’ve crossed things out, changed words, and changed the order of the verses. You might not get it right first time, remember to have fun with it, edit as you go, you my even find different rhyming words that you think fit better.

Top tip! Write a bit and come back to it later after you’ve had a think!
